Butterick 5613-bubble version

My daughter's friend who did her first year of 4H sewing this year wants a bubble skirt. She picked out really cute polka dot fabric and she cut out, serged and pinned all of the pleats several weeks ago. I have just been busy or gone and finally got around to sewing on it this week. I have sewn all the pleats down and all I really have left is the zipper and gathering the bottom of it to make it bubble. I have had to go on basic knowledge to put this together because the pattern has been misplaced. I don't know why. My sewing stuff is always so organized-Ha! That is another project for the summer. I would love to organize my patterns by date or era and also by size within that era. Ah dreams of all my sewing things in their proper place-swoon! Maybe a sewing room one day. Unitl then I will just keep moving things around and trying to get some sewing done. I think this will be very cute on Katy's friend once it is finished and pressed.

Busy!Busy!Busy!

I just feel like this past week and weekend were a blur! I really love weeks that I get to stay home and not be on the run, but this was not one of them. Part of it was trying to finish my daughter's 4H project. Her friends were also trying to finish theirs, so we had many trips to the extension office to sew as a group. You can see in the picture that she is making great progress. All she has left now are buttonholes and sleeve hems. Friday, she and our 2 neighbors were going to sew, but the Homemaker's Bazaar was this weekend and they needed the room at the extension office. My house became the new sewing spot. Three girls sewing, cutting, serging-Yahoo! One was already done with her 4H project and she wanted to make a bubble skirt. We cut out a B5613 for her with the pleats. It is all pinned and ready to sew the pleats down. I love the dot material. I also found a cape pattern on Friday and have made a test one for the little girls at church. It has a yellow lining. I think I want to do pink ones for them with some sort of embroidery on the front.

Last but not least, I worked on my stones with the pieces I printed off on my laser printer. I really like these. They will look so much better when I print them off evenly. These were just scraps of paper. I have several other ideas in mind for this and I will probably try them this week.

Sunday was worship service and a short sitting in the shade under our big maple tree before heading out to small group. I fixed 2 chicken pot pies-yummy! We talked about "How to know that God loves me personally." I can look at my children, be in wonder at how our bodies work and we stay healthy, be thankful for friends who pray for me, read and understand how God sent His Son to die on the cross for my sins and know that His Spirit is within me and be humbled by His grace and mercy toward His children. That is all pretty personal to me. Have a great Monday!

This is the pattern I have listed on "The Cutting Edge" and I have to say it was very simple to cut, mark, pleat and sew together. It only took me a couple of hours to do the whole thing. The instructions are very simple and there is one front panel with pleats and two back panels with pleats. It called for a 7 inch zipper, but I had a 9 inch and that worked fine. I was surprised that there was no interfacing used in the yoke. I did topstitch along the edge to hopefully help it keep its shape. The only thing a little odd about it is the 4 pleats in the back. Both of my girls are blessed (cursed) with ample backsides although they are both very thin (0-2 in RTW) and I think another pleat on both back panels would make it lay and look better. It sort of separates over their bums. I will have to take a picture because I know this probably doesn't make a lot of sense. The only thing I have left to do is hem. This matches the little fabric necklace I made earlier this week-CUTE! I will make more of these skirts. I might try view D which is a bubble skirt. My oldest wants one in bubblegum pink. Very fun for summer. Now on to the next project once I finish the hem.
