Ahhh...The feeling of completion

I have totally finished the Butterick sundress and the Project runway dress today! Had to open up the casing and shorten the elastic as well as take in the bodice seams on the Butterick dress for my two skinny minnys. The runway dress needed the "handpicked zipper" finished that I started last night, hemming and the decorative button attached. I finished all of it today and I am so glad. I also pinned 2 skirts for hemming. That is all they need to be complete as well. It has been a great sewing day in this house! Now I am off to cook dinner (sloppy joes and mac n cheese). I love the satisfaction a completed garment brings.

Long weekend, little sewing

My hubby was off Friday and we spent most of the day and weekend outdoors. We trimmed our apple trees (probably a bit too late), chipped and shredded all the trimmings into mulch, dug out a beaver dam in our creek so our field would drain and many other miscellaneous tasks. Sunday was church pretty much all day and our homeschool co-op group met Monday instead of our typical Thursday. All that to say, that I haven't done much sewing. I have started on the Project Runway dress we had originally cut out for my daughter's 4H project. I have finished applying most of the store bought piping and it really isn't hard to do. I love the effect and will use it on other projects now. I also got the bodice and straps started on the yellow seersucker dress for the same daughter. This material came from Fabric.com and was only $1.74 a yard! It is going together pretty easily. She did have her sewing class Friday and made great progress on her jacket. Saturday she did all of her topstitching and it looks great! This week we are taking a spring break and I have lofty goals for sewing projects-Lord willing. I want to finish the Runway dress and the yellow dress. I would love to get my Vogue pattern done as well. I will just have to take it one step at a time.

Butterick 5435-finished

I think vintage aprons are so feminine. Hancock had their patterns on sale for $0.99 a week ago and I couldn't resist this cute retro pattern. I bought this material at Walmart . It was one of those 5 yards for 5 dollars. I know it is cheap cotton, but it is silky soft and has a really nice drape for the apron. The pattern has an optional pocket that I might attach later. It also has jumbo rickrack. I want the apron to be cute but usable, so I haven't added any of the extras yet. Now if I can get this waistband on surely I can get my '44 skirt waistband on too. I also finished the heel flap for my sock. I will hopefully post some pics later. This little apron just makes me want to go bake something and wear pearls while I'm doing so. Brings out the June Cleaver in me!
