Soda Shop Success

Last night was so fun! We had cute little diner baskets to eat out of, with plenty of hamburgers and hotdogs for everyone. Cokes and rootbeer, floats and shakes, and lots of 50's music. We played the Price is Right and had to guess the prices as of 1950-harder than I thought. We had bubble blowing contests, straw paper blowing contests and played musical chairs and the $64,000 question game. We had questions from WWI & WWII to answer in order to win. Our table won the first time-WooHoo! All the girls had poodle skirts or rolled up jeans and tennies-too cute! We had a few "greaser" guys, but most of them didn't dress up. All in all we had a marvelous time visiting and twisting and playing and eating!

Circle skirt & a happy bridesmaid

I had my daughter try on her "fixed" dress tonight and it looks a whole lot better on her now. A little more shape due to the alterations. I also bought some super sturdy double sided fusible interfacing today along with 4 red maxi locks. I serged the bottom of the navy circle skirt in red and then made a quick wide belt for it. Looks pretty cute. Hope to post pics from the unit celebration on Saturday.

Anchors and alterations

My oldest daughter is a bridesmaid in a friend's wedding this Saturday. Thankfully the chosen dress was inexpensive because they didn't have her size at JCPennys. She really needed a 2 but had to get a 6. She didn't really want to invest money in altering the dress so she asked if I would try. I hemmed it to mid-knee and then took in the zipperless side and the back seam. It turned out okay-not the best since this was a quick fix. I didn't take out seams, I just took them in quite a bit and tried to keep the original shape of the dress. I also finished my younger daughter's circle skirt for a 50"s Unit Celebration this Friday. It was minus a waistband and had no decoration. I made the anchor and then used embroidery floss to outline and make the twisted rope. Still have to connect the rope to the skirt, but that shouldn't take long. I am thinking about making her a tulle petticoat to fill it out. I bought 33 yards of 120 inch wide black netting from Fabric Mart for $15. I hope to make some tulle flowers with it as well for another project.

Circle Skirts All Around

Tapestry Co-op moms--I have 2 multi-sized patterns for circle skirts that I will bring and here are all the fabrics I have that you can use if you don't want to buy fabric. Several are part polyester. Most are cotton based. Some are heavier than others. The one shot of multiple fabrics together is a bunch of lightweight materials that the girls can use for neck scarves if they would like. The red polka dot would also be for scarves or belts. Please email me and let me know if you are interested in any of this, so I can be sure to put your name on it. I have oodles of thead in every color of the rainbow, so you won't need thread. The colors may be a little different in person due to lighting. Bear in mind these will be worn in January most likely.

I have also included some pics of costume jewelry that I inherited when nanny passed away. I can not post all of it, for there is way too much. I will be glad to share this for dress up purposes though. All the earrings are clip on.
