2 Little pigs went to market

I decided to make a few more pigs to take to Glendale days in October. I used a felted wool sweater from Goodwill for the blue one and the green plaid is from some wool I bought for $1.50 at a thrift store in Hilton Head. This pattern sews up pretty fast and I like outlining them with Fisherman's wool. They are cute right down to their curly little tails! They still need eyes, but that will be a quick addition.

The White Minky Pig

I almost finished another pig friend while I was in Pig. Forge. I didn't have any pipe cleaners with me, so I haven't finished his tail. That is a quick fix and then he will make the softest, sweetest baby gift. I have never used Minky material, but man it it soft. This was a scrap I bought at the Cherry Pit Quilt Shop. They have this great bin in the back full of scraps and whatever you can fit in the plastic ziplocks they provide is $2. I am pretty good and shoving those scraps down in those bags. I gave my brown argyle pig to one of the ladies at the retreat. She just loved him so much, I hated to seperate the 2 of them. I also made another scrappy flannel owl. He too will make a soft baby gift. They are really easy. I did that the first day there. It takes so much time to get everything unpacked and set up and I helped some of the other ladies bring in their heavy stuff. I wanted to accomplish something quickly as a confidence booster, so I made the owl.

Can you have a manly pig?

I put together my lastest felted pig yesterday. I used one of the sweaters I thrifted while I was in Hebron with hubby a few weeks ago. I brought home 6 or 7 new sweaters for felting. This is a brown argyle-100% wool. Isn't he just a manly little pig. I haven't put eyes on him yet and I haven't decided if I want to use Fisherman's Wool yarn to outline him like I did my red one. I will figure it out soon. This one went together much quicker than the first because the learning curve is gone. I really like these little pigs. If you decide to make one, don't forget to sew the legs back so that they will stand up straight once stuffed.

This Little Piggy...

I am going to a baby shower for a sweet friend tomorrow and I have a few store bought gifts for the baby, but I also wanted to do something homemade. I bought the Martha Stewart craft book from Barnes & Noble and it has so many ideas in it that I want to try. I decided to make a felted wool pig for the baby's room. I had never felted wool, so I went to Goodwill and bought several wool sweaters that received a healthy dose of hot water and even hotter dryer treatment. They all came out very nicely. I chose this deep red wool for the pig and I think he turned out really cute. I decided to use Fisherman's wool yarn to outline the stitch lines on the pig and I really like that. He really looks like an old toy with that added effect. I just sewed on 2 small black buttons for eyes and inserted a pipe cleaner in the tail for curl and VOILA!
I finished a cream wool cowl on a recent trip and I have some progress on my Simplicity pattern. I haven't taken pics yet, but I will. I also have a baby boy quilt in progress for my sister in law. Will post some pictures of the fabric squares I have cut soon. Hope everyone has a productive weekend!
