A few new projects

I was busy this weekend outside doing things with my hubby, so I didn't get as much sewing done as I would have liked. I have started some matching aprons for child and 18" doll. I also sewed on these flowers to some baby crochet headbands. These were scraps from my receiving blanket that I posted about earlier. I think they turned out pretty cute. I have also started a new cable scarf from some multi color impeccable yarn. So just a few pictures of some projects in the works around here.

Cable Scarf Complete

Finished this last night and it looks lovely wrapped around my dummy.  I had it wrapped around me last night as I was working and it is quite warm.  I will hopefully work on a multiple cable project next or I might try to tackle an easy sock pattern I found.  Not sure.  I am cutting out my skirt pieces today in hopes of getting somewhere on that project this week.  Happy crafting-whatever your craft might be!

Crafty cable scarf almost done

Although I have made very little head way on my 1944 skirt (have pattern pieces cut out), I have almost completed my cable scarf.  I will probably add another 10-12 inches so that it is nice and long.  I want to be able to wrap it around.  I will definitely try another cable pattern.  It isn't so bad once you get going, but you have to keep track.  No more mindless knitting! I wrapped it around my dummy to get an idea for length and man does it look hideous with that dress.  Speaking of which, I wore it to church today with a distressed jean jacket and got many compliments.  Didn't think to get any pictures. My camera is so bad right now-(sniff,sniff,cry,cry).
I did sign up on Ravelry and it looks so knit. It is like knitters and crocheters having their own little world-woohoo!

Have to get to small group soon-we are doing the "Heaven" study by Randy Alcorn right now.  Pretty interesting. Have a great Sunday!

Cable Scarf Progress

Well the jumbo cable scarf is about 20 inches long so far. I have had a few mistakes, but have been able to correct them. I do like the look of the scarf. It is only 20 stitches wide, so it isn't a monstrous piece to work with. I am finally getting the hang of the pattern and I can do it without having to constantly refer to the written pattern. The biggest thing is keeping up with where I am on my row counter. I usually don't have tons of time all at once to sit and knit, so this little device is pretty handy. I am looking forward to wearing this once it is done. Our weather is starting to dip some and it makes me look forward to fires and snow and wearing my scarves.

Cable Catastrophe

Well my lovely pink cable scarf project is no more. I somehow got lost in my stitching pattern and just couldn't seem to fix it. In frustration, it once again became a ball of yarn. I will attempt it again, but for now I am working on a jumbo cable scarf. I found a pattern 20 stitches wide that used 8 strands of yarn together, but I am using one strand of very chunky yarn. It seems to be working so far. Last night I ended up making a boo boo while watching a movie and I stopped in hopes that I can fix it this weekend and it won't suffer the same fate as the pink one. We shall see???

Sorry for the strange coloring (the scarf is a lovely deep, rich burgundy wool mix) in the pics, my camera is suffering from an incurable illness I think. So sad-I love this camera. My flash no longer works and its batteries are being held in by rubberbands-(sniff,sniff) I will have to lay it to rest soon.

Cable scarf take 2!

It has been a very busy week in our household, maybe I should rephrase that to "out of our household."I feel like I have barely been home this week. Took my 18y old to the dentist and she will be having her wisdom teeth out next week. She also can't drive right now due to a blood pressure problem, so we do a lot of extra driving (college/work). We live 30 minutes away from "civilization" so everything is at least an hour round trip. I did manage to restart my scarf while at the dentist's office for 2 hours waiting. It is looking much better, but I think my tension is a bit off. My knit and purl base seems looser than the cabled part. I am going to keep going though. Too many do overs aren't good for the organic yarn or my confidence. We will see what it looks like when I get further along. I am surprised that it is not more difficult to do. I thought it looked complicated, but it isn't too bad. I love cables and hope to do more than just a scarf. By the way-best wishes on your do over Cathi!

Cable Knitting

I have challenged myself to start a cable knitting project and I am proceeding in a so/so fashion. I really like knitting and purling, but I wanted to learn how to do something new that had a very different look. Using more than 2 needles is a little scary, but once I get into a rhythm it won't so bad. My biggest problem is having to count and keep up with row numbers. I am used to watching an old movie while I knit, but I can't do that with cabling. I am not very far along, but we have had a busy weekend. After searching for a simple pattern, I found a fairly easy scarf that has 2 cables up the front. I cast on 38 stitches for this pattern and I am using #9 bamboo needles. I chose some strawberry organic cotton yarn that I bought on sale from Hancocks in the spring. This yarn is so soft. I only have 2 skeins, so we shall see!

On another note, my dog is such a cat! She curls up on top of my knitting or the instructions or the bag I have my knitting in. If anyone comes near my yarn, she snaps at them. I think she is a little psycho! She is nine and that puts me rather close to her age in dog years I guess. I understand how age can make you a little grumpy, but I am really not sure about her cat like qualities. Dogs are so weird!
