A few new projects

I was busy this weekend outside doing things with my hubby, so I didn't get as much sewing done as I would have liked. I have started some matching aprons for child and 18" doll. I also sewed on these flowers to some baby crochet headbands. These were scraps from my receiving blanket that I posted about earlier. I think they turned out pretty cute. I have also started a new cable scarf from some multi color impeccable yarn. So just a few pictures of some projects in the works around here.

Hard drive arrived and more knitting in progress

My hard drive came today and my hubby will install it tonight. Hopefully I will be back up and running soon. I have finished my fingerless mittens and have started a cable scarf that is turning out very pretty. I am now using my clear acrylic Harmony needles in size 5. Love these too! I cut out 2 Daisy Kingdom apron patterns yesterday that have matching ones for an 18 inch doll. Hope to sew those up this weekend. Have a few more hair bows and headbands to work on for Glendale days as well. My 2 older ones are off to KTown for a campus tour of UT. Tonight I am off to Hancock Fabrics for a Tru Fit Patterns class. Evidently there are more than 20 in the class so it should be interesting. Will post tomorrow if I get any great bits of info.

Butterick Apron Progress

I have changed the fabrics up a bit on this apron. Originally I thought I would do one from the M'Liss Fresh From the Garden piece I have, but decided to go with a vintage sheet I bought in Hilton Head and an orange cotton sateen for the apron overlay. I managed to get everything serged yesterday and sewed all the pleats into the underskirt. I have the box pleats pinned on the outer apron and hope to get to those today. I spent 3 hours spreading hay over grass seed this morning(don't know if it will grow in all this heat). We have really been working hard to get the new barn area more manicured. Hopefully we will see a building go up soon. So exciting!

A little further down the runway

Last night the weather was great and my oldest daughter had her sweet beau out here for grilled hamburgers. My husband ended up using the tractor to finish all our pitiful attempts at getting the ground ready for seed and I made homemade french fries to go with the burgers. After all the good food which included Paula Dean gooey cake-YUM!, they worked on homework or computers and I thought I would try to get a little sewing in. I finshed the piping and got the front pieces sewn together and then attached it to the back. I had her try it and it is definitely more fitted than the yellow dress. It is only pinned to Shirley-(she is too big for the dress).I have sewn the armhole facings together, but that is about as far as I got before the bed started calling my name at 11:30. Today my youngest has Homeschool Chefs after lunch, so don't think I will get much sewing done. It is hard to believe my week break is almost over and I feel like I have been spinning my wheels! Summer is coming though and there will be more time for all things crafty!

Rally Day Reserve Champion

Katy and I spent the morning and early afternoon at the 4H Rally Day for our area. She went to participate in the Fashion Revue because she was Grand Champion for our county in her sewing unit. The girls from all of the counties were judged individually and then the entire group did a fashion show. There are many talented girls in these groups. Katy ended up getting Reserve Champion for her unit. That is so exciting! She may enter her skirt in the county fair now. We will see. She looked so grown up in her outfit today. I am very proud of her!

Simplicity 2599

I am also working on View D of this pattern in synthetic! Wow those things are slippery. It is funny how every sewing book basically says "Leave this to the professionals, mam" and scares you to death. I have sort of successfully cut out my pieces and that was pretty difficult. I can see where using a rotary blade would be good. I have sewn the loop closure for the back and managed to get darts in the front. I also have the ruffles ready to pin. So far- So Good. I am planning to use my serger for as much as I can. I reset the tension (yay me) for the synthetic material and it works great. I had more trouble setting my sewing machine. Hopefully it will still resemble a sweet flowing blouse and not a connect the dots activity when I am done!
